Trust & safety
Built-in protection, simple habits
We build safety into the product, and a few simple habits keep you protected.
The golden rule
Never send money before you have seen the property in person or on a live video call, and met the landlord. Legitimate landlords will never rush or pressure you to pay.How FellowFlats protects you
Verified landlordsLandlords confirm their phone number and email before a listing can go live, so you know who you're dealing with.
Two-sided reviewsAfter a completed stay, tenants and landlords review each other, building real reputation.
Reporting & moderationEvery listing and profile can be reported. Our team reviews and acts on reports.
Approximate locationsExact addresses stay private and are only shown approximately until you connect with a landlord.
Staying safe
Do
- View the property in person, or over a live video call, before paying anything.
- Send booking requests and availability questions through FellowFlats, so there's a record.
- Verify your student email and look for verified badges.
- Trust your instincts and report anything that feels off.
Avoid
- Send a deposit or rent before you have seen the place and met the landlord.
- Pay by gift card, wire transfer, or crypto. These are classic scam methods.
- Move off-platform to unverified messaging apps or social media before you've confirmed the details.
- Share banking details, SIN, or ID copies with anyone who contacts you off-platform.
