Ontario law allows last month's rent and a key deposit at cost - nothing else. We block security, damage and cleaning deposits outright.

Is FellowFlats free to use?
Searching, messaging and sending requests are completely free, for everyone. Listing a property is free for landlords too. When a landlord collects rent through FellowFlats, a small platform fee applies to the landlord - never an extra charge to the renter.
What can I rent on FellowFlats?
A whole apartment or house, a private room in a shared home, or a single bed in a shared room. The by-the-bed option is the one most sites do not offer: a landlord lists each bed separately with its own price, so you can see exactly how many are open (for example, '1 of 2 available') and request just one.
Why does a listing here look more expensive than the same place elsewhere?
Because the figure you see already includes every charge you are required to pay each month - utilities, internet, and anything else that is mandatory. Other sites often advertise the base rent and mention the rest later. Compare the totals rather than the headline numbers and the difference usually disappears. Under the Competition Act (s.74.01(1.1)) only sales tax may be left out of an advertised price.
Which areas do you cover?
FellowFlats is launching in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area and expanding across Canada. You can search by city, by neighbourhood, or - if you are studying - by university and college campus.
How do I know a listing or person is trustworthy?
Every landlord confirms their email and is verified before a listing can go live, and verified landlords carry a badge. Every stay can be reviewed by both sides, and any listing or profile can be reported to our moderation team.
How does requesting a place work?
You send a request to the landlord with an optional message and move-in date. It is an expression of interest - never a binding lease and never a payment. The landlord approves or declines, and approvals are handled safely so the same bed, room or unit can never be promised to two people. Once approved, you can pay your rent securely through FellowFlats.
How do payments work, and how do landlords get paid?
After a landlord approves your booking, you can pay rent securely through FellowFlats using a debit or credit card. Payments are processed by Stripe, our payments partner, and your card details never touch our servers. FellowFlats then pays the landlord directly to their bank account. Landlords complete a quick one-time payout setup so they can receive rent this way.
Can I find compatible roommates?
Yes. Fill in your preferences - sleep schedule, cleanliness, noise and daily routine - and FellowFlats shows a compatibility score against the people already living in a room. Useful whether you are a student, a newcomer or working.
Is my personal information safe?
Messaging stays inside the app, exact addresses are only approximated publicly until you connect, and you can export or delete your account data at any time from settings.
